Reading Station Area Redevelopment
Major Infrastructural Project for Network Rail, UK
£850m rail infrastructure programme | 1 year ahead of schedule
The Reading Station Area Redevelopment was an £850m rail infrastructure programme delivered to upgrade Reading station and its surrounding rail infrastructure — work the Government described as making "a huge difference to hundreds of thousands of commuters each year".
Outcome: The programme was delivered one year ahead of schedule and on budget — a result the Prime Minister chose to recognise personally.
"It is clear that the development in and around Reading station will make a huge difference to hundreds of thousands of commuters each year… it was really interesting to see the development first-hand and encouraging to hear the project is also running a year ahead of schedule and on budget. I know a lot of work goes into these visits, so please pass on my gratitude to all those involved in the planning and execution including Jim Weeden, Clement Kwegyir-Afful and Julian Burnell."
